New Podcast Episode - History of the Deadlift

On this episode, I explore the history of the deadlift. Listen on Spotify and Apple. Watch on YouTube.

The deadlift is my favorite lift. A friend at work asked me if I deadlifted, and I sheepishly said, no. He explained some basic form to me that day. I setup the bar, and the next morning, I kept adding weight to the bar until I had to lean against the wall after I pull, I was so exhausted. Iā€™d never been that ground down and worn out by a lift. I loved it!

I started reading articles, watching videos, and following lifters online who specialized in the deadlift. Admittedly, I completely flubbed the correct form for the lift, injured myself a few times - nothing too serious - and finally started recording myself on video with lower weights to master the lift.

As my love for the sport of strongman grew, I watched Eddie Hall break the 500 kg barrier. Then during COVID-19 shutdown, I sat down on my lunch break to eat a sandwich and watch Hofthor Bjornsson pull 501 kg. I loved seeing the lift pulled forward in the record books. History is still being made. Listen to this episode to hear the history of the deadlift and a talk about the historic lifts.
